Case filed against Patidar youths for burning effigies of Amit Shah, CM Vijay Rupani

Surat police Thursday registered a case against unidentified Patidar youths, members of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti, for their alleged involvement in burning the effigies of BJP national president Amit Shah and Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani in Varachha area on Wednesday.

Gandhinagar police had detained over 70 PAAS leaders from outside OBC commission when they were on their way to hand over a memorandum seeking OBC status to chairperson Sugnya Bhatt on Wednesday. Subs-equently, Surat PAAS leaders burnt effigies of Shah and Rupani.

Police said some of the accused have been identified as Jaydeep Polra, Sanjay Mawani and Vikash Rakholia. Sarthana police inspector A K Patel said, “They have gone underground. We are trying to locate them.” Surat PAAS co-convenor Dharmik Malaviya said, “The police officials are visiting houses of Patidars to identify and arrest the accused.”
