A court in Jorhat, Assam, has sent a car-lifter, who has confessed to having killed 42 people over the last two decades, in seven-day judicial custody.

Jorhat Superintendent of Police P K Bhuyan said that they would ascertain the veracity of Bubu Konwar’s claim when the police get his custody. “The court has granted us two-day custody. Konwar had told some local news channels about the murders, including that of a doctor, a Congress leader and a Marwari businessman.

“We are yet to ascertain whether he was really involved in so many murders,” said Bhuyan. He said a pistol, some ammunition and a grenade were recovered from Konwar, who is the son of a former Nagaland police constable.
