Eleven people were arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 12-year-old child in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district on Friday. The incident took place Thursday night in a private boarding school in Hivarkheda in Buldhana district of Maharashtra, 450 km from Mumbai.
The prime accused in the case is a peon of the school. Maharashtra Director General of Police Satish Mathur said that apart from the prime accused, other staff members who knew about the alleged rape but failed to report it were also arrested. A total of 13 people have been booked and search is on for two.
“We have taken action immediately after being informed by the local Sarpanch,” Mathur said, adding that, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incident. He said that the investigation will continue further once the school reopens.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also said that a female IAS officer will investigate the case. “We have also formed a team of female officials to check that SOP’s we created to safeguard girls are being followed or not,” Fadnavis told reporters.
