Yet to make any more arrests in the Bulandshahr gangrape case, UP Police have launched a hunt to nab the kingpin of a criminal tribe gang, which allegedly executed the heinous crime on New Delhi-Kanpur NH-91 on Saturday.
The kingpin, identified as Saleem, is believed to be a native of Bharatpur in Rajasthan and is known to travel across adjoining states with his gang executing highway robberies, police said.
Additional Director General (Law and Order) Daljit Singh Chaudhary confirmed that they were collecting details about about Saleem and his criminal record. Raids are being conducted to arrest Saleem.
Sources said Saleem’s photograph was shown to the victims, 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter, who confirmed his involvement in the crime. Four other family members of the victims, who were on way to Shahjahanpur from Noida before being waylaid in Bulandshahr, had also identified him.
IG, Meerut zone, Sujeet Pandey, who is leading the investigations in to the case, confirmed that the search was on for Saleem. The three accused arrested so far in the case have also admitted to Saleem’s involvement in the crime, he added.
The accused — Raheesudeen of Sutari village in Bulandshahr, Shavez of Hapur district and Jabar Singh of Gautam Budh Nagar district — are lodged in Bulandshahr district jail.
Meanwhile, directions have been issued to all district police chiefs to increase the patrolling on highways in the wake of the brutal gangrape in Bulandshahr.
Earlier, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had instructed top officials, including principal secretary (home) and the DGP, to supervise the investigation into the gangrape case.
