The Central Bureau of Investigation has obtained legal permission to conduct an identification parade of the three accused lodged in jail in connection with the gangrapes of a woman and her daughter in Bulandshahr in July, which had sent shock waves across the country.

A local court gave the agency the nod to proceed with the exercise on Tuesday. Zubair, Sajid and Saleem will be paraded before the victims inside Bulandshahr district jail on October 25, said government counsel Ravinder Singh, who is assisting CBI prosecutor in the case. A copy of the court order has been sent to the prison authorities.

On the intervening night of July 29/30, six members of a family — two brothers, their wives and their children — were on their way to Shahjahanpur from Noida in a car, when a group of robbers had waylaid the vehicle on a highway, looted them and raped one of the women and her daughter in a field in Dostpur village. A case was registered at the Kotwali Dehat police station against 5-6 assailants under charges of abduction, dacoity and rape. In August, the Allahabad High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the case and directed CBI to take over the investigation.
