The Bombay High Court Thursday refused to allow Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr B R Ambedkar, to carry out repair and restoration work at the Buddha Bhushan Printing Press at the Ambedkar Bhavan premises in Dadar. Parts of the Ambedkar Bhavan premises were demolished by its trustees following a BMC notice in June this year. The court, however, allowed Prakash to cover the expensive equipment at the press with tarpaulin to prevent further damages.

The Buddha Bhushan printing press was started by Dr B R Ambedkar. Part of the building and the press were demolished on June 25, with the People’s Improvement Trust (PIT), which controls the property, promising a grand 17-storey Ambedkar Bhavan on the plot. This led to immediate protests by various Dalit groups, including the family members of Dr B R Ambedkar.
