A 31-year-old BJP leader of Periyapatna taluk in Mysuru district was found dead near his village on Friday night.

Police Inspector Siddaiah said the death seemed to have been caused by an accident, but the family members of Malagi J Ravi expressed doubts of a possible murder, and a murder case has been filed.

Ravi, a former vice-president of the local unit of BJP Yuva Morcha, had earlier in the day attended a peace meeting called by the police over the issue of celebrating of Tipu Jayanti on November 10.

“An investigation is on to find out the circumstances of the death,” a police officer said.
