HAVING EARLIER announced plans to contest on at least 100 of 403 Assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, NDA ally Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) on Monday said the BJP should learn from the mistakes the party, as well as the alliance, committed in Bihar elections last year and avoid repeating them.
Watch what else is making news:
Union Minister of State for HRD Upendra Kushwaha, who heads RLSP, declined to elaborate the nature of mistakes, contending that they cannot be discussed in public. Sources in RLSP said the party feels the BJP should not “ignore” allies, and its leaders should not make “provocative and polarising” statements before or during the polls.
“NDA unity should be visible in the alliance’s approach. Why use only the slogan ‘Abki baar Bhajpa (BJP) sarkaar’, when the NDA is fighting,” another party leader said.
Ahead of the Bihar polls, Kushwaha had made known his reservations to communal statements made by some leaders in the saffron family.
Addressing the media here Monday, Kushwaha said he has asked party officer-bearers in UP to decide the seats from which RLSP can fight. “The NDA has a good possibility in UP given the situation there; a change is expected…. I will request the BJP leadership that keeping in mind this possibility, mistakes committed during the Bihar polls should not be committed in UP,” he said.
