Mussoorie BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi, who allegedly attacked a 14-year-old Kathiawari mare, Thursday visited a stable in which the horse is currently recuperating from multiple fractures on its left hind leg.

Shaktiman, who is part of the Himachal Pradesh Police’s mounted-unit, was allegedly beaten with sticks by Joshi and his associates at a protest march.

Local veterinary doctors operated on Shaktiman for five hours before ruling out amputating its leg. They said it would be back on its feet in six weeks. A team of doctors from Mumbai and Pune are slated to arrive Thursday to take stock of Shaktiman’s progress.

Meanwhile, People for Animal Welfare is demanding why Joshi hasn’t been arrested even three days after the alleged assault.

“Not only should MLA be arrested but should be expelled by his party,” said Gauri Mulekhi, People for Animal Welfare.
