A BJP corporator in Muzaffarnagar has been booked for allegedly posting an objectionable comment on Facebook against UP Minister Azam Khan, holding him responsible for the 2013 riots and also threatening him with dire consequences if he ever visited the district.
Azam was in Muzaffarnagar on Tuesday to hold a review meeting regarding development works in the district.
The FIR was lodged against BJP corporator from Anandpuri, Pramod Bharti, late Monday on a complaint of Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar at Civil Lines police station under Section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC and also the IT Act.
When contacted, Bharti said he had no regrets for making the comment against Azam. He claimed to have posted that Azam allegedly was behind the Muzaffarnagar riots and would face consequences if he visited the district. “I have also posted against Maulana Tauqir Raza, who made offensive comments against Hindu women… He had stated that many do not know the name of their child’s father. I will keep on posting against such leaders who play religious politics just for votes,” claimed Bharti.
Civil Lines SHO K P S Chahal said the FIR was lodged after S-I Manoj Kumar went through the Facebook comments against the minister. “Muzaffarnagar SSP Babloo Kumar too had ordered that an FIR be lodged against Bharti… Some local SP leaders had met the SSP on Monday evening demanding action,” added the SHO.
