Conmen posing as Income Tax (I-T) and crime branch officials have robbed businessmen in Bengaluru of Rs 1.83 crore in new currency. Three people took away Rs 1 crore from Tamil Nadu merchant Arogya Raj’s employees on Tuesday after demanding documents to validate the cash they were carrying.

In another incident, a six-member gang robbed two realtors of Rs 83 lakh on Thursday after approaching them for a deal to convert old notes. Shivaram K said that he along with an associate had managed to arrange the cash in new currency when they were approached with an offer of Rs 1 crore in old currency in exchange. The realtors agreed to the exchange at a commission of 20 per cent but Karthik, who had made the offer, demanded that he be shown the money. Karthik later asked his associates to bring Rs 1 crore for exchange. Before the exchange could take place, a group of five persons, claiming to be crime branch policemen, arrived and took away the cash.
