The CBI team, which is posted in Jalandhar for past one week, is yet to get any vital clue about the assailants involved in the attack on senior RSS leader Jagdish Gagneja. The case was handed over to the CBI recently after recommendation from Punjab DGP Suresh Arora.
According to sources, the team has studied the entire file prepared by the Punjab Police and had even visited the locations frequently visited by the RSS leader. “We visited the spot where the attack took place several times. We are also analysing how the assailants managed to attack him in such a busy area and then managed to escape even as police was deployed less than 100 meters away from the spot,” said one members of the team, who requested anonymity.
Apart from visiting the office of RSS in Gopal Nagar area and following the entire route which leads to Gagneja’s house in Jalandhar Cantt, the team is also analyzing that points missed by Punjab Police during its investigation which can be focused by the CBI. Like the Jalandhar police, the CBI too has seen the CCTV footages several times in hope to establish some link, sources said.
Apart from this, the team members have also spoke to few family members of Gagneja, the sources added. Headed by an ASP Level officer Davinder Singh, had even held a confidential meeting with the Jalandhar Police Commissioner last week.
Gagneja was attacked near Jyoti Chowk located in the heart of the city on August 6 late evening and Punjab Police had handed over the case to CBI after nearly five weeks when the police failed to crack the case despite various arrests. Family sources, meanwhile, informed that the condition of Gagneja is stable but recovery is quite slow.
