Taking a jibe at Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray for criticising the demonetisation move by the Narendra Modi government, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Ashok Chavan said it is time the saffron ally carries out a “surgical strike” on BJP by walking out on it in the state and at the centre.
“Uddhav is equally responsible for the inconvenience caused to the people since he is part of the government. Instead of criticising the move and talking of surgical strikes on Swiss banks, he should walk out of the government and conduct a surgical strike himself on BJP,” Chavan told PTI.
He said the government took the demonetisation decision without giving it a proper thought.
“What is the point in extending the deadline for accepting old notes for payment of government dues by three or four days. It is a mockery of people’s sentiments,” he charged, adding the government should have made alternative arrangements for benefit of the ordinary citizens and then withdrawn the high currency notes.
“The decision was taken without proper application of mind on the adverse impact it will have on the common man,” he said adding that Congress is not against steps to curb black money but this is not the right way.
“Two persons including an infant died in the state due to shortage of cash. The government is responsible for this,” he alleged.
