Arvind Kejriwal gets angry at BBC reporter questioning him on demonetisation

Arvind Kejriwal: 55 people have died in the country since the Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes have been banned. And the BBC is saying we cant link this to demonetisation. This is their honest journalism.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been vocal about his criticism of PM Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move. However, in a recent interview to BBC Hindi, the Aam Aadmi Party leader lashed out at the reporter who asked him how he could directly link the reported 55 deaths post-demonetisation to the currency ban.

To this, Kejriwal said in a raised voice, “Few of your colleagues in media, who still have the courage and integrity to ask people in the queues about the issues they are facing due to this move..” The AAP leader was then cut short by the BBC interviewer who said that he, as a journalist, too was doing the same work. “But it is also our responsibility to distinguish the right from the wrong. We cannot directly link the deaths of these people solely to demonetisation,” the reporter said.

Yeh janta dekh rahi hai ke BBC waale kitne imaandaar hain (The public can now see how honest BBC is),” retorts Kejriwal while talking directly to the camera. Reiterating his point, he continues, “55 people have died in the country since the Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes have been banned. And the BBC is saying we cant link this to demonetisation. This is their honest journalism.”

When the interviewer tried to intervene, Kejriwal raised his voice to highlight “the seriousness of the issue.” He further said that he was ashamed the reporters said the deaths couldn’t be linked to demonetisation. “Mujhe sharam aati hai ke aap jaise patrakar yeh kehte hai ke usko link nahi kiya jaasakta hai. (I am ashamed that reporters like you are saying that these two issues cannot be linked),” he said.

“People are dying and it is there in the newspapers and here you are saying that there has been no enquiry,” he says agitated. “People are dying, business are down, people dont have anything to eat in their homes, and you are saying jaanch nahi huyi.”

The interviewer then informs him that an AAP legislator had visited the BBC office and when they asked him if he stood in the queue, he said that his driver had withdrawn the money on his behalf. “Haan toh?” responded Kejriwal. “What are you trying to prove? That 55 people haven’t died?”

When the reporter asks how could one ignore those who are lauding the move, Kejriwal asks him to explain how this move is beneficial. He said that the rich people were not facing the brunt of this decision.”Janardhana Reddy, the one who was involved in a mining scam, had a wedding in his family. Reporters said the wedding expenses costed Rs. 500 crores. How did the money reached him? That means there is home delivery of cash at the houses of the rich. There are no queues for them. It doesnt matter what currency notes you bring in,” he said.  Alleging that the public was being fooled in the name of patriotism, he said that black money flow was not being affected by the current decision.

When the reporter states that the claims are being made by Kejriwal, the AAP leader once again targets the journalists and says he shouldn’t make the issue “frivolous.” “If you want to do an interview, do it properly,” he said. An argument follows and the BBC reporter says Kejriwal indulges in accusations instead of answering questions.

The problem of Arvind kejariwal is understandable. He has not only lost financially, politically too. Anti corruption is what brought him to power. He himself did nothing forbit, except fighting for more powers. Now, without money fighting punjab election is going to be tough, and if this move of Modi succeeds, kejariwal is going to loose his anti corruption face too

It was wrong of the BBC journalist to agree to interview "a lunatic" who thinks everyone else is a "psycopath". Did this BBC journalist seriously expect logical answers? Seriously?

Mr. Kejriwal, you need to stop mocking with people in the name of showing sympathy, while you oppose every step Modi takes to change the lives of the poor!lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;When you talk about poor, your pion for the cause does not at all seem to be even quarter of that of Modi when Modi talks about the poor! Plus, so far you haven't even done much for them other than just keeping yourself busy with criticism of Modi in order to score brownie points!lt;br/gt;lt;br/gt;Who should the people believe more?

You must be aware of the fact that every decision has some cons too, that's nature. Now Sir, it's the people including you shouted to get the black money. Now a PM sactioned a decision (which I guess you are educated enough to know was planned for and year by economists and RBI) to get the black money to mainstream. Now provide me any statistics where a big decision for a country went without casuality. If you think revolution can come without hardship, then there's no hope for you and I pity for people like you. Instead of complaining set an example and help the people in queue, stand for the elders, bring water to others. Kejariwal can provide that, if not then, well it's kejru we are talking about. Don't misuse your hatred in opposition of a positive thing. If you can't do that then try not to disrupt the collective. Fight with facts but practically. You can't stop casualties, even if all the blackmoney owners went themselves to the bank without this plan, people would have died even then. We can only help to ease the pain, not ignore it. And don't talk for those families who have lost, go help th first, then talk when you earn some experience.

Demonetization is ok but black money walo ko koi problem nhi only common people r facing problem ... N What's wrong with RBI they didn't do any analytics we r 1.3bn people ... Look like they totally ignored its pro n cons ... 80% trans happen in cash ... All agriculture is down , transport is down , every1 is facing problems ... Log banks k bahar so rahe h leaving their daily work schedule ... This is sure that RBI had not done much research or preparation ... N proof is why all the exemptions n new policies come in existence after when people start complaining ... Didn't they know what will farmers do , what in wedding cases , separate line for senior citizens etc etc..why don't they think about all these exemption before demontzn . RBI n govt taking these kind of dcsn with 10th% research n prep shame
