Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday sparred on Twitter, trading barbs and challenging each other to a public debate.
Singh was in Patiala on Monday while Kejriwal has been touring several areas in Punjab.
In a series of tweets, Singh challenged Kejriwal to an open debate which the latter accepted and asked Singh to choose four of his Punjab-based leaders. Singh retorted, “Now that you’ve shot your mouth, don’t scoot like you typically do! Show courage & come for an open debate. Choose time, place & platform.”
Kejriwal responded, “I accept ur challenge sir. I suggest 4 names — H S Phoolka, Jarnail Singh, Bhagwant or Gurpreet. Speaker, date, time, place of ur choice.”
The war of words, which started Sunday evening with Singh taking on Kejriwal for his promises in AAP’s Trade and Industry manifesto, continued till Monday evening.
“Punjabis believe in leading from the front, not hiding behind others. Or have you already accepted that you can’t face me for a public debate?” Singh wrote. Kejriwal was quick to respond: “I am not hiding behind anyone sir. I am ready for a debate with Rahul ji or Sonia ji anytime. Our Punjab team will debate wid u.”
Singh wrote further, “So you’ve chickened out! You’re the ‘Aam Aadmi’ who levels allegations on everyone bt wud like to engage only with PM & Presidents of parties!”
It all started Sunday evening when Amarinder tweeted: “Kejriwal better set his house in order before he sets his sights on Punjab.”
The Delhi CM responded: “Sir, Badals closed corruption cases against u just a few months before elections. Why? Punjab asking what’s the deal?”
Later, former state convener of AAP Sucha Singh Chhotepur too joined the war of words in support of Singh. “And Mr Kejriwal, seems its your deal with badal’s to facilitate the ignored leaders in AAP. U dont deserve PB,” Chhotepur tweeted.
