The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has written to the JNU Vice Chancellor, asking him to take suitable action against the authority concerned who gave “permission” to students to organise the February 9 event on Afzal Guru’s hanging.

The letter written by JNUSU joint-secretary Saurabh Kumar Sharma — and marked to the University Grants Commission and the Delhi Police Commissioner — says, “As we know, permission was granted on 9th Feb 2016 programme by Associate Dean of JNU… on behalf of JNU community I request you to kindly take strong action against the concerned authority that had given the permission and silently supported… the programme”.

In another letter to the VC, Sharma questioned why the university had not paid heed to the Defence Ministry’s request to put up a hoarding on campus, exhorting students to join the armed forces.

The allegation comes days after a section of ex-servicemen met VC M Jagadesh Kumar over the event.

The veterans had suggested having an Army memorial on campus. The administration said it was “actively considering” their proposal.
