The Aam Aadmi Party, which rules Delhi, accused Finance Minister and BJP leader Arun Jaitley of indulging in financial irregularities while he was at the helm of the Delhi Cricket Board (DDCA). The party also exhorted Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sack Jaitley from the union cabinet.
The allegations come days after the CBI conducted a raid in the office of Principal Secretary Rajender Kumar at the Delhi Secretariat. But Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the agency looked into files in his office and intended to intimidate the state government. The CBI on its part has denied the allegations.
“A free and fair probe cannot be done as long as Jaitley remains in the post,” AAP leader Sanjay Singh told reporters. “So he should be removed.”
AAP spokesperson Raghav Chadha said Jaitley had been running the DDCA like “an elite club”, appointing his favorites. The AAP leaders levelled a string of charges against Jaitley, who was the DDCA chairman for years.
Among these, they said a budget of Rs 24 crore was approved to construct a cricket stadium but Rs 114 crore was spent.
But BJP leader and Union Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the AAP’s allegations ‘baseless.’
