Troops of Assam Rifles Sunday gunned down four members of the Khole-Kitovi faction of NSCN — a group that is under a ceasefire agreement with the government.

A press release issued by the Assam Rifles in Kohima said a patrol party in village Laikunger was fired upon from inside a community hall complex. The troops retaliated, killing four militants.

Several weapons, including one AK-47 rifle, one M-16 assault rifle and two .303 assault rifles, were also recovered.

The press release said that while groups in ceasefire with the government are supposed to remain confined to their designated camps, a heavily armed party of NSCN(KK) members was operating in the area, in clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.
