In Delhi to look after injured relatives, 16-year-old raped

A 16-year-old girl, who had come to Delhi around 10 days ago to look after her injured uncle and aunt, was allegedly gangraped by three men, including the landlord of the house where her relatives stay in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar. The accused have been arrested, police said. DCP (east district) O P Bishnoi said the incident took place at 9.15 pm on Thursday. He identified the accused as Prashant (40), Vikas Singh (30) and Sanjeev (30). Prashant is the landlord, while the two others live nearby.

“The girl is undergoing counselling through an NGO. On the basis of her statement, a case has been registered,” Bishnoi said. The complainant, who hails from Bihar, told police that she was making food in the kitchen when one of the accused allegedly put a handkerchief on her face and kidnapped her with help from the two others. She said she fell unconscious.

“They took her to another floor, where they took turns to rape her while she was not in her senses,” a police officer said. Meanwhile, the family started looking for her in the kitchen.

“They informed relatives who live nearby and all of them started looking for her. At 12.30 am, she was found outside her room, unconscious. She was taken to hospital and a medical examination confirmed rape. When she came to her senses, she narrated her ordeal to her aunt, who made a PCR call and informed police about the incident,” the officer said. She eventually managed to identify the accused.

“They have been sent to judicial custody to Tihar jail,” the officer said.
