HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Thursday launched a campaign to use the network of Centrally-run educational institutions for propagating the benefits of digital mode of payment in wake of the government’s demonetisation move.
Addressing IITs, NITs, IIITs, IIMs and Central universities through a video conference, Javadekar urged the academic community to become part of India’s growth story than being mere witnesses to the “revolutionary change” brought about by the demonetisation decision.
As part of the campaign titled VISAKA — Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyan — Javadekar urged the institutions to go cashless first, before educating others about it. All educational instructions have been asked to neither receive fee and deposits in cash nor pay wages, salaries in cash. Staff and faculty at these institutions will also be encouraged to adopt the digital methods of payment.
