Heavy downpour in the early hours on Saturday led to flooding in several parts of the city. Roads were inundated and water gushed into many houses in low-lying areas such as Koramangala, HSR Layout and Anugraha Layout. However, there was no loss of human lives, officials said. Many household items including electronic goods in the flooded areas were damaged. Cars and two-wheelers in the basement of apartments in low-lying areas were submerged.

The embankment of Begur lake was destroyed leading to flooding in areas downstream, officials said. Bengaluru Mayor G Padmavathi, who toured the rain affected areas, was flooded with complaints. Residents alleged that the snail’s pace work of remodelling of stormwater drains by the municipal corporation engineers resulted in inundation.

Last fiscal, the state government had released Rs 800 crore for the remodelling of stormwater drains in the city. The project which is scheduled to be executed in two years is far from completion. Officials said the meteorology department recorded 35 mm rainfall in the city during the last 12 hours. The department said a north-south trough coupled with cyclonic circulation above the Gulf of Munnar caused rains in south Karnataka, especially around Bengaluru. The department has predicted heavy rains in the city in the next 48 hours.

Compare the rains of Chennai in Dec 2015 and Bangalore rains 2017? If American Narayan defends the actions of CM of Karnataka government for 2017 rains in Bangalore the same benefit he should have been give to Jaya's government which handled the rains of 2015. Real double standard of American Narayan.

BBMP Engineers are recruited and promoted on political lienings, lobbies and caste lines and not on merit . What can you expect from such Engineers. They neither show engineering acumen nor common sense to resolve flooding and water logging. They take orders from Corporators and MLA's with an eye on vote bank. RWA's are not consulted. Woes of residents are not heard. High handedness and empty promises when approached lack of genuine concern and ability to civic problems . Men, materials and resources are not properly used and at right places. Drains and roads are not scientifically planned. Inter-connection of drains are not to be seen. Atleast every ward should be provided with one tractor and 4 labourers just for desilting the drains throughout the year. Leaves, shrubs, garbage, construction waste to be removed every week. This does not require qualified Engineers. Ordinary supervisor can do this job.

Corruption 2 most, when roads in Highways can withstand rain y not city roads tat too every year they will lay 50mm BM, 25mm SDBC simple substandard work, MLA corporators have to make money for next election, jacketing of SWD makes the vent even more less by 30 cms, no proper planning engineers in BBMP crave for money, some engineers are passed their diplomas by coping etc., so until people stop casting votes by not taking money. Nobody can help it out then like me as usual every1 barks for some day in live tv go to home forget it day after tomorrow. EE, AEE, EE should b dismissed immediately replaced with students in pending list MLA/Corporator who supports them should also be removed 2nd winner at the time of elections should be made the next MLA/corporator. Can u do this. We were using telegram 100 years back but now we have upgraded to what's app right. Same update the cons ution, being strict rules, make 50 years service for Govt officials every1 will get chance.
