A GIRL child was killed and five others were injured after a motorcycle stunt went wrong at a funfair in Botad late on Saturday evening.
Rider of a Yamaha bike performing Wall of Death stunts at Royal Anand Mela in Botad lost control of his vehicle after its rear tire burst, police said. The bike vroomed out of the vertical cylindrical structure inside which the stunts were being performed and landed on spectators.
Police said the bike hit Setu Bharwad, a woman who was holding her one-year-old daughter Urvi in arms, and few others who were standing beside her. The stuntman, however, escaped injury-free.
Setu and her child were rushed to government hospital in Botad. But doctors at the hospital declared the child brought dead. “Setu has also sustained serious injuries and she was later referred to Bhavnagar for further treatment. At least other four persons have also been injured and two of them had to be hospitalised,” Kanji Mariya, police-sub inspector of Botad said on Sunday.
Police said the incident took place at around 7 pm on Saturday at the Royal Anand Mela going on near MD High School on Paliyad road in Botad.
Police said the funfair was closed after the accident.
Botad police have booked the unidentified motorcycle rider for causing death by negligence and causing grievous hurt by act endangering life. However, the PSI, who is investigating the case, said no arrest or detention were made till Sunday evening.
