The Ahmedabad police on Thursday arrested four for allegedly attempting to loot a credit society employee of Rs. 1.40 crore near Vohra ni Roza on Wednesday. The robbers allegedly hatched a plan of loot to get quick money to campaign for the upcoming taluka level elections in the State.
The accused were identified as Dhulaji Solanki (38), Rajendrasinh Rathod (22), Rafiq Mansuri (33) and driver of the credit society office Mahesh Khant (22). All are residents of Himmatnagar.
According to police, Mahesh Khant planned the loot to arrange money for his uncle, Dhulaji who wanted to contest taluka elections from Raigadh taluka in Sabarkantha district. Dhulaji reportedly wanted this sum to spend in campaigning and other expenses during elections, police said.
The employee of Shree Renuka Mataji State Credit Co-Operative Society, Bhavesh Dabhi was passing from Vohra ni Roza when the four accused got into his car by allegedly pointing a knife and a revolver at him. Dabhi was going from the credit society’s office at Relief road to Bapunagar branch.
The Shaherkotda police said that the robbers asked the victim to drive till Memco crossroads at gunpoint. “When the car reached Memco, they tried to snatch the bag and flee however the victim resisted. In the process of scuffle with the robbers, the robbers slashed the knife at the trader. But when the victim still didn’t leave his bag, the accused fled in the fear of being caught by locals in the area,” said the police.
The police added that earlier also they tried to rob another employee on July 20 but failed in their attempt.
