Opposition candidate and former West Bengal governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Saturday congratulated Vice-President elect Venkaiah Naidu for being elected to the post and wished him the best for the new office. Speaking to the media after the results were declared, he thanked all MPs from the Opposition parties for voting for him. “I thank those who voted for me. I was expecting a handsome performance by the united vote of Opposition parties and I’m more than satisfied,” he said. “The election saw two victories — one of Naidu, another of free speech; the second victory belongs to all the people of India,” he added.

Taking to Twitter after the results were announced, Naidu expressed gratitude to all those who supported his candidature. “I promise to uphold the Constitution and high standards set by my esteemed predecessors. It’s an honour for me to become Vice-President from a family of an ordinary farmer. This Speaks for the beauty and strength of our democracy,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called on Naidu on Saturday evening and felicitated him at his residence in New Delhi, said he is confident that Naidu will serve the nation as a diligent and dedicated Vice-President, committed to the goal of nation building.

Naidu, who is India’s 13th Vice-President, will succeed Hamid Ansari after his tenure ends on August 10.

Free speech only for the elite and families to promote themselves. Voice of persons in the last rung of the social ladder, disabled and poor was never a matter of concern for so called secularists or champions of poor.

Venkaiah Naidu's emphatic win (more than 20 Opposition MPs crossvoted for him) is a strategic victory for the BJP, and a crushing defeat for the Congress/Left-wing nexus. No more can the latter stay assured of surrep ious support from the Chair in the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. The exit of Hamid Ansari from the office of Vice-President of India and ex officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, is a happy circumstance. Ansari had failed to discharge his functions with due impartiality. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

IF Rajiv had married a Pakistani muslim INDIA would have become Pakistan without any effort or a war. SO MUCH FOR KHANgressi patriots THAT OPPORTUNITY HAS GONE as RaOWL can not achieve that. A DILEMMA for KHANgressi patriots.

THE KHANgress should be charged and punished for insulting Mahatuma GHANDI IN A CAMOUFLAGED WAY. THEY should have put up RaOWL GHANDI for the contest. IT should have helped GHANDI to become Prime Minister in 2019.to the satisfaction of his mother, priyanka and Vadra.

So now Modi has achieved something that the republicans did in USA ... A sweep of power in both the houses ... And we now see a Sanghi in the PM CM VP and President and Governor posts everywhere ... The dhongis ( khangress )will now cry over why they supported waitress and pappu as Congress party leaders when they were more seasoned than pappu and co. What a let down to see such a glorious and powerful party collapse to chaddi gang ... The current political scene is a representation of the polarisation of Hindus towards right wing ... More and more voices from JNU and other campuses on Azadi Barbaadi will only worsen the plight... Congress lost face in polls again

Congress has still a chance only if they ditch Sonia and Rahul Gandhi Khan and family from the helm
