The University of Pune (UoP) has decided to give the non-teaching staff working on contract basis the axe. M L Jadhav,University Registrar,on Friday issued a circular directing the Shakti Security and Personnel Services,Solapur to stop the supply of the contractual staff from July 1.

About 435 personnel who were working with various departments of the varsity, including 60 officials in the examination department, will now be relieved of their duties.

These persons were working with the university for last two years for many important academic departments including Board of College and University Development (BCUD),Examination Department along with security and sanitation departments.

The move comes after contractual examination department officials were allegedly found involved in the fake marksheet scam. The issue was also raised at the senate meeting where members had stressed upon the need for having permanent employees for the examination department.

“Their contract ended on June 30 and we will not continue it. All the departments have been directed to stop using the services of the personnel supplied by the company,” Jadhav said. The varsity officials, however, have not clarified how the administration will meet the shortfall as it has not conducted any recruitment drive recently.
