The Abhinav Bachao Kruti Samiti,a group of student unions and NGOs in the city, has demanded a CID probe into the allegations of financial mismanagement in the Bharatiya Kala Prasarini Sabha (BKPS),the trust which runs Abhinav Arts College, which has a branch each on Tilak Road and at Pashan.

Members of the samiti,Chandrakant Ghanekar,Dilip Vishwakarma,Dilip Limbale,Mateen Mujawar met resident district collector and handed over a memorandum on Saturday.

The three-member committee constituted by the state to probe alleged irregularities in the functioning of Abhinav Arts College visited the college on Friday and met the staff, students and alumni to hear their grievances. The committee, headed by G G Waghmare, the dean of Sir J J Institute of Applied Arts,Mumbai,is expected to submit its report to the government by Wednesday.

“This college has given many good artists and architects to the state and the country. The current controversy has spoiled the environment in the college. There are some internal disputes among the management, teachers and the non-teaching staff, which leads to frequent agitations,” said Ghanekar.

BKPS,citing financial crunch, had last month announced closure of both the branches by 2015. The move sparked protests from students, alumni and the art fraternity.
