The Punjab School Education Board (PSEdB),has included a chapter on the Pushpa Gujral Science City (PGSC),Kapurthala,in the Hindi language textbooks for VIII std students. PGSC is among the biggest science cities in the country.
The chapter on the science city,the board hopes,will motivate students to visit the place. Education experts also feel that the step will prove to be constructive and fruitful.
Director General,Science City,Dr R S Khandpur,while revealing the decision,stated that a chapter on the city had earlier been included in the first language (Punjabi) textbooks for VIII std students and has now been included in the hindi first language and second language textbooks.
The chapter will inculcate interest on science subjects among the students,Kahndpur said,before adding that the science city was an embodiment of knowledge not only for students but teachers as well. He emphasised that childrens association with science was the need of the hour and said the science city has been creating awareness among students about scientific activities by organising various competitions like debates,poster making contests and model making events.
A panorama tilted Life Through The Ages will be opened shortly. The panorama will display and demonstrate major events on evolution like the Big Bang,development of unicellular animals and plants to multi-cellular organisms,dinosaurs and evolution of humans from the prehistoric era to the modern age, he added.
PGSC will tie up with CBSE and other educational bodies for introducing a similar chapter in their textbooks,the director general said.
