Gadkari to launch free school uniform on May 9

The scheme was announced by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on December 30 when the government had completed four years in power.

BJP national president Nitin Gadakri will on May 9 launch the Himachal Pradesh’s government’s ambitious Atal School Uniform Scheme aimed at providing free school uniforms to more than nine lakh government school students from Classes I to X twice a year.

The scheme was announced by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on December 30 when the government had completed four years in power. “The is going to be BJP government’s flagship scheme and will benefit lakhs of students belonging to poor sections. Nitin Gadakri will arrive at Nahan to launch the scheme and also attend a rally.” Health Minister Rajeev Bindal said in Nahan on Thursday.

A committee,headed by Chief Secretary Sudripto Roy has been assigned the task of monitoring the implementation of the scheme — worth Rs 64 crore. With the BJP recently winning the Renuka Assembly seat in the — first time after 28 years — Nahan in Sirmaur district has been chosen as the project’s launch pad.
