Reacting to Modi’s speech at a rally in Gujarat, Mamata tweeted: “Modi babu knows that #DeMonetisation (is) now derailed. Except giving bhashan (lecture), he has no solution.”
The PM had slammed the Opposition for their “repeated disruptions” in the Parliament over the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes and claimed that he wasn’t being allowed to speak at the Lok Sabha. “The government has always said we are ready to debate. I am not being allowed to speak in Lok Sabha so I am speaking in the Jan Sabha,” the PM told farmers at a rally.
Sources in Trinamool Congress maintained that Mamata was likely to further intensify her Opposition of Modi. “Narendra Modi thinks that he can mislead the people through his talks. That is how he won the 2014 elections and that is how he is hoping to get past this mess that he has created. But Mamata will not allow that. She will point out the flaws at every step,” he said.
The ongoing winter session has been marred by repeated protests and adjournments with the Opposition taking on the government on the notes ban announced on November 8 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Thursday Mamata demanded Modi’s resignation as the move had led to an “economic disaster” in the wake of which he had “no moral right” to continue. She alleged that the country’s growth and business were hit due to demonetisation.
