BJP’S PERFORMANCE in the recent local body elections and the poor response to protests called by Opposition earlier this week was clear evidence that the overwhelming support to demonetisation decision in a survey conducted on the Narendra Modi app was genuine, a statement on the Prime Minister’s personal website said on Thursday.
The results of the survey had claimed that more than 90 per cent of the respondents supported the demonetisation decision despite the inconveniences caused. Questions were raised by the Opposition over the genuineness of the results.

“BJP secured decisive wins in MP, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, and Maharashtra (in local bodies elections and by-polls for assembly and Parliament), including in areas where it was never historically strong… The combined opposition Bharat bandh was a damp squib. Not only did leading opposition parties refuse to support the bandh but the bandh was also rejected comprehensively by the people of India,” the statement said. “It is thus not surprising that the survey on the Narendra Modi app gave the numbers that it did.”
The app released fresh details of the survey results on Thursday, giving state-wise break-up of responses on two of the questions — whether people supported the decision, and if they minded the inconvenience. The results show 55 per cent in Karnataka and J&K said they did not mind the inconvenience “at all”. The national average was 43 per cent. About 33 per cent of respondents from Lakshadweep said they actually did mind the inconvenience.
