Police have filed an 888-page chargesheet against six youths arrested on charges of gang-raping a 23-year-old US national studying in Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai.
On April 11,the US national had gone to a night club in suburban Trombay with a group of six men. Later, she was allegedly gangraped by them in a flat in suburban Andheri.
The accused– Vinamra Soni,Anish Borkataki,Kundanraj Borgohain,Harshavardhan Yadav,Jaskaran Bhullar and Dev Cyrus Kulabawalla– were charged with raping the victim who had come to India for a course on gender and development at TISS.
The chargesheet, which was filed yesterday before a magistrate court in Kurla, includes forensic reports and statements of witnesses, police said.
H M Savlani, advocate representing Anish and Kundan, said that a copy of chargesheet would be furnished to each of the accused by Tuesday when they would be produced before the court.
“We will go through the copy and medical reports submitted by the police carefully and decide the next course of action. The magistrate would soon commit the case to sessions court,” said Salvani.
The victim has returned to her home town in US on June 15. In the absence of the victim, the police have to solely depend on evidence gathered from the scene of crime and other medical and forensic reports.
