A 14-year-old girl has been allegedly kidnapped and gangraped by two constables on premises of Musajhag Police Station in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh. The accused, who are absconding since the incident on Wednesday night came to light, have been dismissed and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Musajhag SHO Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav has also been suspended in the wake of the incident. According to a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, two drunk constables — Avnish Yadav and Veerpal Yadav — abducted the girl when she was going to a nearby field to relieve herself and dragged her into a car. They then took her inside a room in the police station and repeatedly raped her, the complainant said, adding, the two then left the minor, who was bleeding profusely, outside her house in the village.

While Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi condemned the incident calling it “unfortunate”, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Friday ordered suspension of the two policemen and directed officials to make all efforts to arrest the accused and punish them. The two constables were later dismissed from service in evening.

Following the directions from the Chief Minister, ADG (Crime) Hitesh Awashthy has been sent to Badaun for supervising the investigation. Awashthy, who held meeting with police officials in Badaun and also visited the spot, told The Indian Express that the medical examination of the victim has found injury on her private parts.

After the victim’s mother, who was accompanied by the girl and other villagers, registered the complaint with the police, SP (City) Lallan Singh said medical examination of the minor confirmed that she was raped. ADG Awasthy, who held meeting with police officials in Badaun and also visited the spot, too told The Indian Express that the medical examination has found injury on private parts of the girl. He said the victim’s statement would be recorded before the magistrate on Saturday.

“The two constables will not be spared for their shameful act.We have formed a special team and are hopeful to arrest the two,” said Additional SP Santosh Kumar. This is not the first time that the policemen in the district have been involved in such an incident as a woman was allegedly raped by the policemen under Lalpur police post in Badaun last year. The service of one policeman was terminated after the incident.

To keep things 100 % above board one should do away with In house investigations. A independent civilian agency should be legally empowered to investigate & prosecute offences committed by the law enforcement agencies. This practice is followed in some advanced countries.

These rapists are not fit for any public service. Dismiss them from their jobs. It is high time that India should develop a public website where the particulars including the photographs of all the criminals be stored.

Every policeman in India should feel ashamed at this. Protect the women and the young and disabled!

Police are there to serve and to protect and not to rape, pillage, loot and take bribes. They should be lynched in public and then hanged by their jewels so that no other policeman or policewoman ever thinks of raping someone else in the future.
