The Crime Branch investigating the hooch tragedy said on Saturday that it has identified the main supplier of spurious liquor from Mahemdabad to the city.
“In the investigations we have found that consignments of spurious brew had been brought in the city from Vatvadi village in Mahemdabad and distributed in the city,” DCP (crime) Abhay Chudasama told reporters.
The hooch tragedy has claimed 122 lives so far. “One Vinod Chauhan alias Dagri made the spurious liqour. He has been charged under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act and is absconding,” he said.
The liqour was brought into the city by two bootlegers,Dadu Charra and Harishankar Kahar,Chudasama said. The Crime Branch arrested three accomplices of bootlegger Harishankar Kahar alias Hario on Friday.
Charra also a PASA detainee had brought 400 litre of brew and supplied it in Kantodia Vass of Majoor Gam area,Chudasama said. Charra is also absconding.
While Harishankar Kahar had brought around 700 liters and supplied to various liquor dens in Odhav,he said, adding Kahar has been arrested and is in their custody.
“Our main priority is to find out the sources of chemical mixed in the liquor,” Chudasama said. As per Crime Branch officials liquor was mixed with methyl alcohol which might have caused the contamination. Based on the revelations made by bootlegger Harishanker Kahar, who supplied spurious liquor to various parts of the city,we believe that the chemical solvent was illegally procured as it is not sold openly,” Crime Branch officials said.
Chudasama said that they are trying to find out whether this deadly chemical was added at source of production or was mixed after it was brought to the city.
The Crime Branch has also arrested Vipul Luhar,Uttam Luhar and Himmatsinh Parmar who are accomplice of Kahar,Chudasama said. The search is on for Vinod Chauhan and Dadu Charra,Chudhasama said.
