The Kerala Police Sunday arrested a youth on charges of repeatedly raping his own mother. The woman, mother of three children, approached the police after her husband failed to look into the issue, said the police.

The incident was reported in Kottayam district, but the police did not reveal the name of the arrested 25-year-old man to protect the identity of the mother.

“The arrested youth is mentally stable and healthy. Prima facie there is no reason to consider him otherwise. Under the influence of liquor, he often abused his mother,” said the police.

They said the victim had complained that the eldest son had been abusing her for quite some time. The complaint has given three specific occasions within the last two weeks. Her husband was apathetic towards the issue and often behaved in a manner supporting the son, said the police.

The mother told the media that she had pleaded with the son not to harass her and repeatedly reminded him that she is his mother, “who carried him for 10 months’’.

In one of the incidents, the son broke open the bathroom and chased the mother, who went out of the house to escape the torture.
