China said on Wednesday that it was willing to play a “constructive role” in improving relations between India and Pakistan, especially after the increased hostility along the LoC, saying the situation in Kashmir has attracted “international” attention. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said India and Pakistan are important South Asian countries but the “situation in Kashmir has attracted the attention of the international community.” India has maintained that the Kashmir issue is a bilateral matter with Pakistan, and that there is no scope for a third party mediation.

The Chinese comments aimed at getting involved in Indo-Pak tensions come at a time the armies of India and China are locked in a standoff in Doklam area in the Sikkim section.

Expressing concern over the tension between India and Pakistan, Geng said “the conflict occurred near the Line of Control of Kashmir. This will not only harm the peace and stability of the two countries but also the peace and tranquillity of the region.”

“We hope the relevant sides can do more things that are conducive for peace and stability in the region and avoiding escalating the tensions and China is willing to play constructive role in improving relations between India and Pakistan,” he told reporters.

The comments also come two days after a Chinese analyst wrote in the state-run Global Times that a “third country’s” Army could enter Kashmir at Pakistan’s request, using the “logic” the Indian Army used to stop the Chinese military from constructing the road in Doklam area.

Geng’s comments were in reply to a question on the tension between India and Pakistan, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) expressing concern over the situation in Kashmir, and whether China can play role to defuse the hostility between the two countries.

According to Pakistan Foreign Ministry, the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, who met in Abidjan, Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, passed a resolution on Kashmir.

Indian security forces have been carrying out combing operations in parts of Kashmir to clear the areas of militants supported by Pakistan who launch attacks against them.

On Monday evening, militants targeted a bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims and killed seven of them, including six women, in Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Lashkar-e-Taiba commander and Pakistani national Abu Ismail has emerged as the mastermind of the audacious attack.

India is willing to play a constructive role in the quarrel between China and Taiwan (the Second China). India can also mediate between Chinese and Uighurs and Chinese and Tibetans.

Chinese planners have thought out their act pretty well. This reversal on Kashmir policy from recognizing it as a bilateral matter to an intervention mode, presented as constructive, is a serious setback for India. They have opened up settled issue of Sikkim, reiterated pre-condition of Indian withdrawal on Doklam, and now Kashmir. It seems of the three musketeers, their focus shall not be on Japan nor US, but India only, Foreign Secretary claimed in his recent Singapore speech that India is a net security provider in Asia-Pacific, this claim may have been valid until recent past, less likely now. The game plan of China is not clear, but they do seem determined to opt for political programming of long term contention. Indian response of staying cool has improved her global profile, but this is a brownie point, does not change ground reality. The option of politicians closing ranks and demonstrating unity could attenuate conflagration risk and improve troop morale.

There must be a thing called 'kashmiriyat', otherwise Kashmir would not have been a place with learned and hard working people. Kashmiriyat can be revived with guaranteed success. Kashmir would be terror free within a year. This can be done with correct thrust at the right place. Kashmiri people would also be proud of such an iconic solution. We have to accept that Pakistan is busy promoting terrorism at a foolish cost to itself, destroying it's economy and educational ins utions in that process. It could have been stopped, but, Chinese support to its military and terrorist leaders has caused an addiction to its fundamentalist forces. India should cut Chinese imports by 25 percent every month from now on. Jihadi terrorism will vanish. Pakistan will see its economic demise coming soon, as it has been spoon fed with ideas that CPEC will give it a lot of money, and a lot will come from India as it would have no other good way to maintain its economic iden y. China will adjust too.

Indian government can give huge concessions to indigenous start ups making superior products, and tax the Chinese imports. Or else, we may invoke the reason that free trade treaties with enemy countries will not be honored any more.

It's difficult to decide whether one should feel angry or amused at the comments by OIC Muslim countries and China with regard to Kashmir. Is the current situation in Kashmir any different from what passes for daily normal condition in most of the Islamic countries? Name one Islamic country where a section of the population is not up in arms against the established order? As to China, we would entertain their concern as long as they entertain similar concern by their neighbors and others in the restless areas under their control, like for example, Tibet, Sinkiang and the rocks and islands near Japan, Inodonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines which are in contention by others.
