Amit Shah accuses TMC of unleashing violence against BJP workers

"Today, I met the family members of the victims of political violence in Bengal in the last six months... All this happened because they did not support the ideology of the ruling Trinamool Congress," Shah told reporters on the last day of his three-day visit to the state.

BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday accused West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress of unleashing violence against BJP workers in the state and urged human rights organisations to speak against it. No violence could stop the growth of the BJP in Bengal, he said.

“Today, I met the family members of the victims of political violence in Bengal in the last six months… All this happened because they did not support the ideology of the ruling Trinamool Congress,” Shah told reporters on the last day of his three-day visit to the state.

“I want to ask the people here — is this Rabindranath Tagore’s Bengal? Is this Swami Vivekananda’s Bengal? No one has the freedom to play a part in any political party other than the TMC,” he said.

This kind of violence was perhaps not seen anywhere else, the BJP president said. Several people were killed, many injured and their property destroyed, he alleged, targeting the Mamata Banerjee-led government in the state.

The BJP chief said development could not take place in Bengal under such circumstances. He urged human rights organisations to report political violence against BJP workers in the state.

Members of human rights organisations should visit Basirhat, Birbhum and other places in the state and talk to the victims of political violence, he said.

After more than 30 years of Communist rule in Bengal,Mamta/TMC defeated CPM Congress in the assembly election. The government is run by TMC now. BJP is doing its best to snatch the second position from CPM. No doubt,Amit Shah is indirectly attacking CPM in Bengal and Directly attacking CPM in Kerala. The aim and object is to be the main opposition party in Bengal and not to defeat Mamta, which BJP has realised is next to impossible.

          1. A couple of days back there was a news report about posters, banners and other propaganda material prepared by West Bengal (WB) unit of BJP wherein chief minister of WB Ms Mamata Banerjee was described as a ‘jihadi’. In this news report BJP president has made accusation of violent attacks on BJP workers in WB. I believe that level of political debate and propaganda in our country is reaching new lows in our country. It is rather sad that BJP president Shri Amit Shah, many others in his party and many others in opposition parties, like for instance, chief minister of West Bengal Ms Mamata Banerjee, do not feel disturbed by such new lows in political parties’ propaganda material. 2. Today, it is not unusual for leaders of our political parties to make wild allegations against opponents, as no one asks for proofs and no one cares bothers to submit them. 3. Citizens like me often feel out of place in this era of aggressive, power-centred politics wherein truth becomes first casualty.
