With a good kick-start, Ram Charan Teja’s Dhruva opened decently at the box office in the US and at home.
According to trade analysts, the film collected close to Rs 3.16 crore ($ 4.7 mn) at the USA box office on Thursday and Friday. Saturday numbers took the sum to over half-a-million dollars. The film is also expected to have a strong weekend collection.
The film raked in $ 223,871 on the premier day and $ 244,214 on Friday in the US.
The domestic collections also saw a good opening with a share of Rs. 90 lakh in West Andhra and Rs. 68 lakh in Krishna district region of Andhra.
However, the numbers from Nizam and Cedad would decide the reception in Telugu states.
The film also came at the crossroads of demonetisation and had to postpone its release to avert losses. In fact, Dhruva producers reportedly requested Suriya’s Singam 3 filmmakers to postpone S3 to avoid box office clash and the makers pushed the dates to next week. Singam 3 will now release on December 16.
Dhruva is the official Telugu remake of Tamil blockbuster Thani Oruvan. It has Jayam Ravi playing the daredevil cop. The music is composed by Hiphop Tamizha, who also composed for the Tamil original and cinematography is by PS Vinod. Under Surender Reddy’s direction, the film also features Rakul Preet Singh who plays Ram Charan’s ladylove, apart from Arvind Swamy who is playing a negative role.
The film got good reviews and is expected to be a big show for the star as it packs some heavy-duty action sequences shot in exotic and remote locations.
