The Kapil Sharma Show rules TRP charts and hearts and the big reason is that it knows its strengths. While most of the jokes on the show may not pass political correctness or good taste test, it always has its audiences — and the guests — laughing out loud.
After a while, we lost count of how many times Arijit laughed. In fact, once he had to actually take a pause because he was laughing so much he could not breathe.
It all began when Nani — or Ali Asgar when he is not dressed in drag — made his entrance and tried to get up, close and personal with the singer. The nimble-footed Arijit dodged the overtures. But laughs came when Nani asked Arjit which song he will sing for her (err, him). Kapil provided the anser: Nani teri morni ko mor le gaye.
Then came Kiku Sharda’s nurse. Other than Kapil’s comments on his waist size, Kiku had some jokes of his own. Sample one: Why would people have trouble asking Arijit Singh to belt a song? Because they will have to say ‘Arijit Singh sing’. And what is the opposite of Arijit? Simple, Ari-haar! Kiku and Arijit then danced as Kapil sang.
Kapil was not the only one who sang. There was also Dr Mashoor Gulati who has apparently set up a band with Kiku’s character. And how was he as a singer? The man can write a book on how not to sing and promote it with this song.
And then came the moment we were all waiting for — Arijit Singh singing his hits Kabeera, Phir Le Aaaya and Tum Hi Hon. He also sang the Bengali song Mone Pore Ruby Roy.
Kapil also told Arijit not to launch himself as a Bollywood hero based on what happened to Sonu Nigam and Himesh Reshammiya when they did so. Hmm, catty but funny.
