One of the most popular mythological dramas on television ‘Karmphal Data Shani’ will soon see a leap. Child artist Katikey Malviya who had been playing the titular role will now be replaced by popular actor Rohit Khurana. A model from Delhi, Rohit debuted on TV with Choti Maa, and then grabbed a plump role in Uttaran. After playing multiple negative roles, the actor is now kicked about his first mythological venture. Speaking exclusively to indianexpress.com, he shared, “Initially I was skeptical about doing a mythological or historical show. But for a long time, I had wanted to work with the production house (Swastik Productions) and since they only do this genre of shows, I had to relent.”
He further quipped, “I had auditioned for the show almost a year back but nothing came of it. Just recently I got a call from them and they called me for an audition again. We did a couple of look test and the channel also liked me, and soon everything just fell in place. I think it’s completely destiny.”
The actor interestingly had to give up on a film to take up this role. “I had signed for a horror film but it was getting delayed. As an actor, you don’t like to sit at home and thus I went ahead with Shani. When I looked myself in the getup, I realised that I had to do this. There couldn’t have been a better opportunity. With such a strong character and a primetime show, I did not find a reason to say no. Thus, I let go of the film for this show,” he shared.
The younger Shani, Kartikey has been loved and appreciated for his character. Stating that comparisons will be made, Rohit added, “That kid has really done a fantastic job and I wish him all the very best. But more than him my comparison and competition is with me I have never tried anything like this and I am really keen to know how I perform. Also, I feel I am mature enough to take this responsibility.”
Since such genres require a specific body language and diction we asked Rohit about his preparation for the role. “Usually on television, we speak a very day-to-day language but this time it’s going to be tough. I am sure once we start rolling, things will get better and easier. As for the preparation, I believe in going with the flow. No one has seen Shani or how he behaved, walked or talked. So, I will bring my own style, my own perspective to the character. Shani was known for his strong eye contact and with God’s grace I have been blessed with similar eyes and thus will use it to the fullest,” the actor concluded.
The team will commence shooting for the post leap phase soon and it should hit airwaves by end of the month.
