Every year, the various Indian television channels try to cleanse their prime time slots in the second half of the year and give its audience a fresh line-up of shows. And this year too, things are no different. September alone is witnessing a horde of new shows, that are set to fight it out for top ratings. While all of them are family dramas, they are as different as chalk and cheese. So fasten your seat belts, as 2016 is set to end on a good note. Check out these shows which chose the month of September to arrive in your living rooms.
The family saga premiered on Zee TV on September 6. Sanyukt is the story about an extended family and the trials and tribulations between each family member. Its core cast includes actors Shubhangi Latkar, Kiran Kumar, Harsh Vashisht, Namrata Thapa, Mohit Sharma, Urvashi Sharma and Suraj Kakkar. The show explores things that define the real happiness in a family and how standing by your loved ones through thick and thin is more important than going after your own personal goals. At the age of 60, veteran actor Kiran Kumar is playing the protagonist of the show, which also marks his return to television after three long years. In an interview, Kiran had said, “The show follows the emotional journey of an elderly couple, Govardhan Bhai Mehta and his wife Ila, who realise that their kids have misgivings and issues with the two. The couple makes an effort to mend these fragmented relationships within the family”. Correct us if it doesn’t remind you of the Bollywood film, Baghban.
Ace filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is venturing into direction on television for the first time. And going by his track record, we are only excited to have a show rolling out under his expert vision. Naamkarann is a romantic drama which began on September 12 on Star Plus. It is inspired from Bhatt’s National Award winning film Zakhm starring Nagarjuna, Ajay Devgan and Pooja Bhatt. Naamkarann will highlight the story of little Avni, an illegitimate child, whose father left her and her Muslim mother Asha while she was young. Its primary cast includes actors Viraf Patel, Barkha Bisht, Sayantani Ghosh and child actor Ashween. Singer Arijit Singh has sung the recreated version of song “Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo” for the show. Naamkarann has replaced Diya Aur Baati Hum.
3. Badho Bahu
Another romantic drama began airing on &TV from September 12. Bigg Boss winner and model Prince Narula will make his acting debut with this one. He plays a Haryanvi wrestler in this one. The show will also star Arsha Goswami and Rytasha Rathore. Its story traces the life of an overweight girl who takes up every challenge due to her physical appearance with utmost confidence and breaks several stereotypes in the society.
4. Zindagi Ki Mehek
Newbie Samiksha Jaiswal is making her acting debut with this one. The show which will premiere on September 19 on Zee TV, also stars Mr. India World Karan Vohra as its male lead. Though the makers haven’t revealed much, the promos of the show hint that it is the story of a homemaker, who single-handedly manages the entire family, and with a smile. We hope this one doesn’t turn into another saas-bahu never-ending saga.
While we await how these four new shows fare on the ratings chart, we have more lined up for next month, including the much awaited Bigg Boss 10 and Naagin 2. Watch this space for more.
