Bringing the curtains down on Kapil Sharma’s Comedy Nights With Kapil has not been a happy one for channel Colors. A lot of drama was involved over the telecast of the final episode of the hit show. While Kapil has maintained a steadfast silence, Comedy Nights Live host Krushna Abhishek, in a scathing attack, called Kapil insecure and accused him of running away instead of staying put and fighting back.
But Preeti Simoes, who was the creative director of Comedy Nights With Kapil, spoke up in defence of Kapil and said the new show’s host and the makers were ‘blowing their own trumpets and digging their own graves. Let them do what they have to.’ (Read: No ‘Comedy Nights’ without Kapil Sharma, say fans)
Talking to IndianExpress.com, Preeti said, “There is no point reacting. He has made such immature statements. Why will Kapil Sharma feel insecure of Krushna? It is as simple as that. Just because you want to put yourself in Kapil’s category, you are drawing those comparisons. Did anybody else say anything? And because you did that, the track you got in your first episode came out. Let your work speak. Why do you want to put words in people’s mouth. And you want people to compare you with Kapil. That is why you are making certain statements. Has Kapil ever spoken a word about any other show? Kapil came from Comedy Circus. Comedy Circus shut down he never said anything. About Comedy Classes too he never said anything. Then Comedy nights Bachao came and even though they were not number one or even in that category, they started announcing we are number one and have the highest TRPs and all that. You see they have come for strong reasons. Their prime reason should be to make people laugh. Their reason should not be to put someone down or look better or make people feel we are in the same category. But their pride lies in the fact that Madhuri Dixit ne yeh kiya or Katrina Kaif aa gayi. These are all the wrong reasons. How can we or anyone compare themselves to them because these are two different worlds. It is like Bajirao Mastani comparing to Kya Kool Hai Hum. It is so stupid. These were two different shows catering to different audience and one can’t expect one to compare themselves to somebody. They are blowing their own trumpets and digging their own graves. Let them do what they have to.” (Also read: Comedy Nights With Kapil: Channel drops final episode of Kapil Sharma’s show)
Preeti also refused to accept the argument that it is the channel Colors that made Kapil a big brand. When asked if it was the channel that made Kapil a star, Preeti said, “You think so. He first won Laughter Challenge. The first show he did was for MH1. He won Laughter Challenge , Laughter Challenge made Kapil. He won six seasons of Comedy Circus and Comedy Circus made Kapil. It is the talent that makes one what he or she is. Nobody makes anybody.”
When asked how Kapil has been reacting to all the statements being made about him in public, Preeti said, “He has moved on. That is the kind of man he is. He doesn’t even bother. We are busy in the process of planning our next show.”
