What is an award show without a little bit of comedy?
We all have that one friend who will readily remind you of the day when you did not win the award. For comedian Jimmy Kimmel, it’s actor Matt Damon at the Emmy Awards 2016, his ostensible foe and arch-nemesis. The Martian actor has appeared on Kimmel’s shows to trade insults, which make for great prime-time television. Their feud (feigned or otherwise) started 11 years ago when Kimmel said at the end of a rather boring show, “I want to apologise to Matt Damon, we ran out of time.”
That became a gag, culminating in a hilarious episode in which Damon did appear. However, on Sunday night at the Emmys, it was Kimmel who was at the receiving end.
After losing the Variety Talk Series award to the host of the popular English show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, Kimmel was in a bad mood for obvious reasons.
To add more salt to his wound Matt Damon made his entrance with a lot of audience cheering for him. “What do you want?” Jimmy Kimmel asked the Good Will Hunting actor.
“I missed the last category, did you win?” the Oscar-winning actor asked, chomping loudly on an apple. It didn’t just end there… the Jason Borne star went forward to confront if he got a trophy, although he confessed that he wasn’t the winner this time but John Oliver. “This is so humiliating,” Damon said, “I’m sorry. I mean, you lost, and now you’ve gotta stand out here for the rest of the night when you probably just want to go home and curl up and cry.”
Now you know how stars feel when they lose.
