“Wayward Pines” alum Carla Gugino has replaced actress Christina Hendricks as the leading lady of Cameron Crowe’s comedy pilot “Roadies”.
Gugino, 43, will take over the role of Shelli. Hendricks, 40, exited “Roadies” after her role was re-conceived, said The Hollywood Reporter.
The decision to revamp the role was a creative decision and not based on Hendricks’ performance — and that the actress and Crowe look forward to collaborating again in the future, said sources.
The hour-long comedy follows the day-to-day life of a successful rock tour as seen through the crewmembers, who get the show on the road.
Gugino’s Shelli is described as the band’s production manager, a world-class multitasker, passionate music fan and tireless work partner to the band’s tour manager Bill (Luke Wilson).
Gugino (‘San Andreas’) joins a cast that also includes Imogen Poots, Rafe Spall, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Peter Cambor and Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly (Beyond the Lights).
Crowe, who won the best original screenplay Oscar for 2000 rock drama “Almost Famous”, is writing and directing the pilot.
Winnie Holzman (‘My So-Called Life’) and J J Abrams will executive produce the comedy from Warner Bros Television, Bad Robot, Vinyl Films and Dooley & Company Productions. Holzman will serve as showrunner.
