It is an unexpected and unforeseen box office clash in Kollywood. Actor Sasikumar’s comedy film Balle Vellaiyathevaa, which was expected to hit the screens early next year, has surprisingly preponed the release date setting a face off with actor Suriya’s Singam 3.

Sasikumar took to Twitter to announce that his film will be releasing on the Christmas weekend while sharing a new poster of the film. It is not clear, what motivated the makers to release the film against Singam 3, a film which is expected to dominate the box office till Pongal.

Singam 3 is the most-anticipated film this December, given that Suriya enjoys a strong fan following across south of India. So much so that the makers of recently released Dhruva, requested the Singam makers to postpone the release by a week.

Filmmakers of Bogan, starring Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles, had also announced it will open in theatres on December 23. However, after Singam 3 makers pushed the release date of their film from December 16 to December 23, some media reports suggested that Bogan producers had been considering to hold back the release until next year.

While Balle Vellaiyathevaa is a comedy set in a rural backdrop, the Suriya-starrer is an action film, which is the third installment in the Singam series. Meanwhile, the teaser of Balle Vellaiyathevaa reminds us of the 1988 hit film Patti Sollai Thattathe, which revolved around the hilarious relationship between a grandson and his grandmother.

Comedy star Kovai Sarala plays the grandmother of Sashikumar in the film. Going by the trailer, both actors are set to give us a laugh riot with their antics. The film, which is written and directed by debutant P Solai Prakash, is produced by Sashikumar. Tanya Ravichandran plays the female lead.
