Superstar Rajinikanth visited DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s residence last night to enquire about the latter’s health condition. The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had been hospitalised in Chennai since a week “for optimisation of nutrition and hydration.”

Rajinikanth was photographed leaving the DMK patriarch’s Gopalapuram residence after spending some time with the 93-year-old leader. The photo shows Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin seeing off the Thalaivar. Popular lyricists Vairamuthu also called on the leader to learn about his well being.

Karunanidhi was admitted to the Kauvery Hospital on December 1.

Rajinikanth, meanwhile, has requested his fans not to celebrate his birthday as he is mourning the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. Rajini had also lost his good friend Cho Ramaswamy, who passed away last week while he was under medical care.

Rajinikanth turns 66 on Monday. His millions of fans worldwide, traditionally celebrate his birthday by organising well-fare measures, re-releasing his old blockbusters in theatres, putting up big banners and posters among others. The makers of the star’s cult hit Baasha had planned to release the digitally spruced version of the film to mark his birthday.

However, Rajinikanth requested his fans to refrain from celebrations in the light of the recent passing of important leaders of Tamil Nadu.

“Rajinikanth requests his fans not to celebrate his birthday,” Rajinikanth’s manager Riaz Ahmed posted on his Twitter account.

On the work front, Rajinikanth has taken a break from shooting for his forthcoming magnum opus, 2.0. The sequel to the 2010 film Enthiran is being made at a whopping budget of more than Rs. 350 crore, thus becoming the second expensive film in Asia. The film is directed by Shankar and has Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar playing the main antagonist. It also stars Amy Jackson in a pivotal role.

The film is slated to hit the screens on Diwali next year.
