Film-maker Sanjay Gupta who has been working on the script of Mumbai Saga for a while now, is most likely to begin shooting for the film in May. The film is based on true events that shall be portrayed in a contemporary manner. “Though Mumbai Saga is based on true events, it’s contemporised. It’s basically a story about men who rose from the streets of Bombay, to rule Mumbai. None of them were born into riches. It’s about common people who changed the face of Mumbai,” says Gupta about the film. In all probability, the tagline of the film will be, ‘Men who rose from the streets of Bombay to rule Mumbai’, since the film shall also portray the transformation of Bombay to Mumbai.
According to a source close to the project, the film will have six heroes. While, Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, and Manoj Bajpayee have been confirmed for Mumbai Saga, talks are on with other actors. Refuting the news about Anil Kapoor’s character having shades of Bal Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and Bhai Thakur, and Bajpayee’s character being sketched on gangster Arun Gawli, Gupta says, “No character is based on any real life person. The characters are based on the collective personas of the politicians, gangsters, and cops of that era.” So, while Anil Kapoor’s character may represent the political scenario, Abraham’s character may reflect the underworld of that era.
Mumbai Saga shall be majorly shot in Mumbai, with some portions being shot at real locations. “There’s also a lot of serious miniature work in special effects. The pre-production work of the film, including the VFX has already begun,” adds Gupta.
