In 2010, actress Padmini Kolhapure had announced her debut production venture Lathi under her banner Star Talash. Starring Sachin Khedekar as a school teacher, Master Desai, the film was stalled after director Sanjay Surkar passed away.
There were speculations of Tejaswini Kolhapure playing a pivotal role in the film. Her elder sister, however, clarifies, “Tejaswini is not a part of the film any longer. Earlier, there was a guest appearance slotted for her in the film. But certain changes were made to the storyline after Mr Surkar passed away, where the character which was to be played by Tejaswini did not fit in the story line.”
The film, a socially relevant drama that charts the journey of a school teacher, who devotes his entire life imparting knowledge to children, only to realise that what they had imbibed was completely different. Directed by Mahesh Aney, the film is now complete. According to Kolhapure the first copy of the film is due to release anytime.
Marathi film Killa bags award at Berlin film festival
The Marathi film Killa bagged the Crystal Bear Award for the Best Feature Film at the Berlin Film Festival, a first for an Indian film. The film, which premiered recently at the Berlinale, also got the Special Mention from the International Jury of KPlus.
Killa is the third Marathi film to be selected in Berlinale in its entire history and it is the first Indian feature film to win this much coveted award.
Produced by Madhukar R. Musle, Ajay G. Rai, Alan McAlex under the banner, Jar Pictures and presented by M.R. Filmworks, the film was a part of NFDC Film Bazaar’s Work-in-Progress (WIP) Lab in 2013. The film stars Amruta Subhash, Archit Deodhar, Parth Bhalerao and Shrikant Yadav.
Killa deals with the universal conflict of migration and how it impacts the lives of people, especially children. The story revolves around a young boy Chinu, who finds it difficult to adjust to his new surroundings where he has migrated to, after his father’s death. Killa is slated for India release this May.
