It is quite interesting to note that since the year 1995 when the ScreenAwards kicked off, every year the Best Director Award went to the director of the film that won the Best Film trophy. However, in 2005, the 11-year-old pattern broke when Kunal Kohli won the Best Director Award for Hum Tumwhile Veer-Zara took away the Best Film trophy. Interestingly, even after that, barring a few cases, both the trophies have gone to the same film — including this year when Vikas Bahl won the Best Director Award for Queen, which also took away the Best Film trophy.
In fact, Queen became the film of the year with the maximum number of nominations — 13. According to Anurag Kashyap, one of the producers along with Vikas Bahl, for the film that was distributed by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures, it was a team effort that worked besides the strong script and different storyline. He appaluded Vikas Bahl for his efforts. As for Viacom 18, it was the second win in a row. Last year, the studio won big with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Even before that, it had backed Kahaani that won many trophies.
