It may look like a breeze, but shooting the stunt sequence that has Akshay Kumar and Lisa Haydon sitting on a couch hanging mid-air on a chopper was no air-walk. The prep of the sequence was shot on a pristine beach in Cape Town 60 meters above the sea. It took about a week and was filmed with a camera atop a high crane.
“It took about three-four hours to shoot the sequence, but the crew was there a week before to plan it. Getting the couch made and how it would hang from the chopper, getting a stunt director from Cape Town, took that much time,” informed Murad Khetani, the film’s producer.
The couch, he said had to weigh around 80 kgs so that it did not swing when it was suspended in mid-air. To make sure it was safe, Akshay went alone and stayed up for about 10 minutes, after which he took his co-star Lisa with him. “Once the chopper went up with both of them, they were in the air for about half an hour till we got the correct shot,” said Ketani adding the sequence was Akshay Kumar’s idea inspired by a Tom and Jerry cartoon.
The film which is directed by Abhishek Sharma is slated to release on November 21, 2014.
