Music applications on iOS and Android applications are fast becoming hot favourite downloads for most Indians, especially those who can’t take time out to enjoy listening to their favourite songs on a high volume or play it in the background at leisure. With popular apps like iTunes Radio and Google Play Music yet to make its presence felt in India, a few other music applications are currently ruling the roost and are keeping music lovers entertained during their long commuting hours, short cab rides and more. Here’s a glimpse of the top five music applications that should make their way into your android or iOS gadget.

Saavn

-Price: Free

A simple interface plays a key role in such applications. Saavn is one of the most easy to use music apps available in the App store and Google play store. Also available in the form of a website – Saavn.com, this music streaming application offers a vast range of music genres and that too, in different languages. Find your pick from Bollywood, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Gujarati music. A host of newly launched songs make their way on the application for exclusive hearing. For those with an account on Saavn can save playlists, browse through the song map and enjoy some quality music in HD. We also love the Saavn radio feature, which allows a listener to choose their favourite mood or artist and in return, the application prepares a playlist to suit their choice. Smart application with zero glitches!

Gaana

-Price: Free

Another application with a smooth interface (and quite similar to Saavn) is Gaana. It also has its presence on the web as Gaana.com and the app should be your one stop shop for a great collection of music in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu among others. Again, exclusive tracks from new films make their debut here. So, you can show off your knowledge about new songs and hum the lyrics before anyone else. Gaana also gives the user an option to download songs (limited) within the application and prepare a playlist, that can be played later (and saves the buffering hassle). There is also a paid version called Gaana+, which offers unlimited downloads. Several songs also have the option of a lyrical video, so karaoke nights will never be the same again. We also love Gaana radio, which is quite similar to that of Saavn. The one touch radio feature allows the user to play music based on their choice.

Tune In

-Price: Free

Always loved the feel of a live radio? Live streaming applications ain’t your thing? Then relax, because Tune In is just the right app for you. It’s a popular online radio service that is also perfect for those, whose gadgets don’t have built-in radio (and also for those who are searching for something beyond their local radio stations). The application brings together a host of radio stations from across the globe. So in case you get bored of music, you can always hop on to news or live radio broadcasts from different parts of the world. This is a great app for music lovers, with over 50 genres of music radio stations to choose from, right from pop to jazz, hip-hop, folk and country; Tune In sure makes for a good buy.

Tune Bash

-Price: Free

A relatively new player in the app market, Tune Bash has steadily climbed up the popularity charts. The application offers a great melange of music, be it Indian or International. The user can search for their next hear by typing the song name, artist, album or even hashtag! Yes, a hashtag, as the moment you type something like ‘Romantic’, you will immediately get a list of all the tracks that are trending worldwide as ‘Romantic’. The vibrant colour scheme and easy interface makes this app easy to use even for a child. You can play songs from the current playlist created by you, without having to open the playlist, with just the touch feature. Tunebash also offers music social network. Here, the user can share songs, make friends and also take a look at what others are listening to. The application makes use of your location details and looks out for the well known songs in your area, along with details of the popular listeners of those songs around you.

YouTube Jukebox

-Price: Nil

If all else fails and you don’t get the time to download any application, head to the YouTube application and play popular jukeboxes created by different channels. These days, most music channels, including popular ones in India like T – Series, Sony Music, TIPS among others, create a jukebox specific to a film, genre among others. Instead of hunting for individual tracks, the user just needs to hit the play button and enjoy listening to the entire album and that too, for free. Apart from film related jukeboxes, these channels also come up with actor specific (example: Amitabh Bachchan Hits) or holiday / season specific (example: Independence Day Hits) jukeboxes, which compile the best songs from different films and albums into one. The jukebox, in a way, takes away the stress of creating a playlist and allows the user to enjoy all the songs without any hassle. Just make sure that your mobile internet connection is decent and does not create much trouble while buffering the jukebox.
